Sad thoughts of the Death Penalty as I head out for Live Oak.

I can't stop thinking about the death penalty. My friend deAnna (that's right, small d) called it the murder penalty. That so perfectly sums it up. It makes me so sad: that our society has become so desensitized. That people feel it will solve *anything.* It's an embarrassment. I can't understand how we got to this place. Everyone is so into pointing fingers and looking for the quick fix. The words people use just further divide us -- all of us. I'm guilty too. I pigeonhole conservatives as uncaring, calloused, and uptight. But all that does is cause a greater divide and keep me from hearing them. My friend Macker (who's praynaked.com site is currently down) has helped to change this for me. We agree on NOTHING. And yet, he has helped me to lighten up and not be so worried about changing anyone's opinion, etc.

Great Article on the Death Penalty.A Death in Texas:Prison made a new man out of Jonathan Nobles...But death row only has one exit. This really moved me. Steve Earle's account of befriending a person on death row and attending their death. Beautiful article.

I'm gone all weekend to my favorite place on earth: Live Oak Music Festival.

And with that, I bid you adieu.
